The south coast of Puerto Rico is constantly exposed to hurricanes, which support the island's wind energy while destroying the island's native rainforest. Using the unique biological properties of palm trees, wind barriers were constructed to protect the coastline, while incorporating topography to stabilize the soil structure and provide shelter for vegetation deep within the island.
